Job summary

BMC Software, Inc. is seeking a Principal Product Developer to join the IZOT team. This fully remote role in the US/Canada requires deep z/OS, C/C++, and IBM Assembler expertise to architect and lead complex product conversions.

You will mentor the development team, drive high-value design decisions, and evaluate new technologies. Visa sponsorship is not available at this stage; strong independent work is essential.

Qualifications

• 12+ years with z/OS processing environment and z/OS internals.
• Extensive product development using C/C++ and IBM Assembler with system focus.
• Architecture experience for converting between C compilers.
• Knowledge of Db2 and mainframe tooling.
• Multitasking, reentrant or sysplex coding experience.
• Experience in IBM Mainframe environment (TSO/ISPF, JCL).
• Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality solutions.

We're looking for a Principal Product Developer to join our Intelligent z Optimization & Transformation team (IZOT).

This role will be fully remote in the US / Canada. We're unable to offer visa sponsorship at this stage.

In this role, you'll work on a broad array of critical, unique issues and complex programs/solutions. You'll architect and determine conversion paths (SAS/C conversion), build prototypes and use other appropriate techniques to achieve product definition and design goals.

As a Principal Developer, you'll provide programming leadership for a product/solution according to design specifications. You'll also promote opportunities for product and process innovation, while identifying and implementing best practices.

What You'll Do

• Successfully develop and deliver products, product lines, and solutions ensuring functional accuracy and quality standards.
• Design, code, and fix defects of increasingly complex, multi-tier software solutions.
• Produce a range of high-quality design options, reflecting a wide breadth of technical knowledge and insight.
• Work directly with global clients on complex product issues/escalations.
• Conduct code and design reviews.
• Make high-impact decisions; determine which development paths to pursue to deliver the greatest value.
• Evaluate new technologies/innovations and processes that could impact products/solutions, including 3rd party releases.
• Mentor/provide technical guidance to the development team.
• Leverage the skill sets of the entire team, take input and advice, combine pieces of information to produce a better answer.

Required Experience

• 12+ years of experience with z/OSProcessing Environment, including string knowledge of z/OS structure and logic, as well as z/OS system internals
• Extensive product development experience with both C/C++ and IBM Assembler, including system-side focus
• Architecture experience determining conversion paths between C compilers
• Knowledge of Db2
• Coding experience in a multitasking, reentrant and/or sysplex environment.
• Experienced creating functional designs/specifications from business requirements.
• Experience with IBM Mainframe environment (TSO/ISPF, JCL etc.).
• Experience in developing working code utilizing low-level operating system functions to accomplish a desired task.
• Self-starter able to work independently to provide quality solutions with little oversight.
