The Role: Principal Platform Engineer

A Principal Platform Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for designing, implementing, and managing our application platform and architecture, focusing on scalability, security, and efficiency. Collaboration with various teams to align data strategies with business goals is essential.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and development of new architecture and major upgrades for the Coupa Application Platform.
• Develop expertise across the entire Coupa application suite to improve data and application frameworks.
• Follow iterative development processes to deliver value with each release and contribute to the long-term technical vision.
• Document solutions using existing standards and create new templates for review and approval.
• Gain consensus on solutions through consulting and collaboration.
• Work with Engineering and Product teams on feature design, review releases, and analyze defects for resolution.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineering staff.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful software development, implementation, and deployment.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 5 years of system implementation experience in large, complex IT projects.
• Experience developing business applications or frameworks for 5+ years.
• 3+ years of designing high-level architectures for business domains.
• Proficiency in enterprise architecture, middleware, and software development lifecycle methodologies.
• Experience with enterprise multi-tenant systems, containers, microservices, message queues, and database optimization.

Compensation:

The estimated pay range varies by location, e.g., Bay Area: $214,625 - $252,500. Actual salary will depend on skills, experience, and geographic factors.
