Job summary

Mayo Clinic Platform (MCP) TechOps seeks a Principal Platform Architect to lead observability, scalability, and reliability across MCP systems. You will design architectures, promote automation, and drive performance improvements with cross-functional teams.

You will mentor engineers, align with product, security, and compliance, and define best practices for scalable cloud environments and CI/CD pipelines. This role offers a path to impact patient care through better platform reliability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or 10+ years of full-stack engineering experience.
  • 3-5 years in project management, architecture and design.
  • 3-5 years in Agile software development environments.

Responsibilities

  • Own the MCP Observability and Support strategy and road mapping.
  • Establish automation patterns for vulnerability management and remediation tracking.
  • Supports and advises the execution of the MCP technical roadmap.
  • Drive maturity of MCP Technology systems by promoting adoption of new tools and standards.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by updating processes and automation.
  • Mentor and coach other technical team members.
  • Define and champion CI/CD, observability, infrastructure as code, and reliability engineering standards.
  • Collaborate with developers, Product Managers, Infosec and Compliance to set standards and identify risks.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Mayo Clinic Platform (MCP) TechOps Director of Technology, the Principal Platform Architect will be a technical leader, process and quality evangelist, and agent of change to drive operational maturity throughout the MCP systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the MCP Observability and Support strategy and road mapping. Design, maintain, and improve the architecture used by other teams to manage their system health.
  • Establish automation patterns for vulnerability management and remediation tracking.
  • Supports and advises the execution of the MCP technical roadmap.
  • Drive maturity of MCP Technology systems by launching and managing campaigns to promote adoption of new tools, processes and standards.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by regularly reviewing and updating processes and automation according to evolving best practices.
  • Acts as a mentor and coach for other technical team members, supporting technical growth and systems-based thinking.
  • Define and champion comprehensive standards and best practices for CI/CD, observability, infrastructure as code, and reliability engineering across the Platform Technology team, as well as our vendor partners.
  • Work closely with developers, Product Managers, Infosec, Compliance and other stakeholders to set standards, identify risks, and ensure quality is a shared responsibility.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in a relevant information technology field or a minimum of 10 years of direct full-stack engineering with increasing complexity or 5 years in a principal engineer capacity.
  • 3-5 years project management, system architecture, and design.
  • 3-5 years working in diverse environments utilizing Agile principles of software development.
  • Principal level experience with Hyperscale Cloud Environments and their configurations (Google preferred. AWS or Azure considered).
  • Experience with enterprise information security systems and application in a public cloud environment. Understanding of healthcare specific considerations such as HIPAA and HITRUST strongly desired.
  • Principal level experience in DevOps and CI/CD principles.
  • Experience directly delivering and supporting clinical systems.
  • Experience with cloud architecture, deployments, and management in an enterprise setting.
Additional Experience And/or Qualifications
  • Experience with Interoperability standards such as HL7 and FHIR.
  • Experience with solutions integration/delivery in a healthcare setting.
