Job summary
Mayo Clinic is seeking a Principal Platform Architect to lead observability, automation, and architectural strategy for the Mayo Clinic Platform (MCP). You will guide cross-functional teams, shape the technical roadmap, and promote standards in CI/CD, IaC, and reliability engineering.
You will mentor engineers, collaborate with Product, Infosec, and Compliance, and drive best practices across vendor partners to improve system resilience while supporting clinical systems in a complex healthcare
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in information technology or related field; 10+ years of direct full-stack engineering or 5+ years in a principal engineer role.
- 3-5 years of project management, system architecture, and design.
- 3-5 years working with Agile software development.
Responsibilities
- Own the MCP Observability and Support strategy and road mapping; design, maintain and improve architecture used by other teams to manage system health.
- Establish automation patterns for vulnerability management and remediation tracking.
- Support and advise the execution of the MCP technical roadmap.
- Drive maturity of MCP Technology systems by launching campaigns to promote adoption of new tools, processes and standards.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by reviewing and updating processes and automation.

Reporting to the Mayo Clinic Platform (MCP) TechOps Director of Technology, the Principal Platform Architect will be a technical leader, process and quality evangelist, and agent of change to drive operational maturity throughout the MCP systems.
- Own the MCP Observability and Support strategy and road mapping. Design, maintain, and improve the architecture used by other teams to manage their system health.
- Establish automation patterns for vulnerability management and remediation tracking.
- Supports and advises the execution of the MCP technical roadmap.
- Drive maturity of MCP Technology systems by launching and managing campaigns to promote adoption of new tools, processes and standards.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by regularly reviewing and updating processes and automation according to evolving best practices.
- Acts as a mentor and coach for other technical team members, supporting technical growth and systems-based thinking.
- Define and champion comprehensive standards and best practices for CI/CD, observability, infrastructure as code, and reliability engineering across the Platform Technology team, as well as our vendor partners.
- Work closely with developers, Product Managers, Infosec, Compliance and other stakeholders to set standards, identify risks, and ensure quality is a shared responsibility.

- Bachelors degree in a relevant information technology field or a minimum 10 years of direct full-stack engineering with increasing complexity or 5 years in a principal engineer capacity.
- 3-5 years project management, system architecture, and design.
- 3-5 years working in diverse environments utilizing Agile principles of software development.
- Principal level experience with Hyperscale Cloud Environments and their configurations (Google preferred. AWS or Azure considered).
- Experience with enterprise information security systems and application in a public cloud environment. Understanding of healthcare specific considerations such as HIPAA and HITRUST strongly desired.
- Principal level experience in DevOps and CI/CD principles.
- Experience directly delivering and supporting clinical systems.
- Experience with cloud architecture, deployments, and management in an enterprise setting.
- Experience with Interoperability standards such as HL7 and FHIR.
- Experience with solutions integration/delivery in a healthcare setting.
