Job summary

AIM Intelligent Machines, Inc. is seeking a Principal Perception Hardware Engineer to own the sensor system architecture for our autonomy platform, guiding modality selection, sensor choice, placement, and integration on heavy equipment.

You will lead trade studies across hardware, perception, and vehicle teams, set standards, and drive the sensor system from prototype to field deployment, including calibration and validation in challenging job-site conditions.

Qualifications

• Experience at Principal level owning sensor systems for autonomous robots, setting direction across teams.
• Sensor-suite architecture, requirements definition, and trade studies including sensor placement and coverage analysis.
• Hands-on experience with cameras and LiDAR in real-world deployments.
• Sensor validation, calibration, and characterization: designing test campaigns and defining acceptance criteria.
• Track record of taking sensor suites from prototype to field deployment on real vehicles or robots.
• Experience selecting compute platforms in partnership with hardware, embedded and software teams.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end sensor architecture for the autonomy platform, including modality selection, sensor choice, placement, and integration.
• Run trade studies on coverage, occlusion, performance, cost, and reliability; make final calls on sensor-suite trade-offs.
• Translate product, customer and autonomy needs into sensor and subsystem requirements.
• Define the compute platform with embedded and perception teams.
• Design test campaigns and acceptance criteria for sensors and the sensing system.
• Develop calibration and characterization processes for real-world field deployment.
• Lead the sensor system engineering effort from prototype to fielded deployments.
