Job summary

AIM is seeking a Principal Perception Hardware Engineer to own the sensor system architecture for the autonomy platform, spanning sensor selection, placement, and integration. You will set the technical direction across hardware, perception, and vehicle teams and help build the sensor systems capability from the ground up.

The role requires hands-on experience with cameras and LiDAR, plus track records of taking sensor suites from prototype into field deployments on real vehicles or robots.

Qualifications

• Experience at Principal level owning sensor systems for autonomous vehicles or robots, defining long-term standards.
• Sensor-suite architecture, requirements, and trade studies including sensor selection and placement analysis.
• Hands-on with cameras and LiDAR.
• Sensor validation, calibration, and characterization across hardware and software boundaries.
• Track record of taking a sensor suite from prototype into real deployments on vehicles or robots.
• Experience selecting compute platforms with embedded, software, and perception teams.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end sensor architecture for the autonomy platform, including modality and sensor selection, placement, and integration.
• Run trade studies on coverage, occlusion, performance, cost, and reliability; make final sensor-suite trade-off calls.
• Translate product and autonomy needs into sensor and subsystem requirements.
• Design test campaigns and acceptance criteria for sensors and sensing systems; build calibration processes for real machines.
• Take the sensor suite from prototype to field deployment on heavy equipment at job sites.
• Set technical direction across hardware, perception, and vehicle teams; develop sensing standards for multi-year roadmaps.
