Job summary

Phoenix Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Principal Engineer, Payments Infrastructure to own architecture across tokenization, wallets, processor integrations, routing, and reliability.

This hands-on role reports to the CTO and drives merchant outcomes through engineered payments paths and AI-assisted tooling. You will own multi-processor integrations (Adyen, Stripe, NMI, VGS, Spreedly), credential lifecycles, and platform reliability, while shaping the merchant dashboard surface to reduce support

Qualifications

• Over 10 years building and shipping production software in a hands-on role.
• Proven product judgment with direct customer impact.
• Experience working with merchants or processors to drive outcomes.
• Deep payments domain knowledge across tokenization, wallets, and PCI scope.

Responsibilities

• Own integration architecture for processor, gateway, and vault integrations.
• Define product direction and execution roadmap for payments infrastructure.
• Design merchant-facing surfaces in dashboards to expose routing, salvage, and MID health.
• Own tokenization lifecycle from vaulting to provisioning and expiry.
• Migrate credentials between providers and vaults with secure, compliant processes.
• Own authorization and approval-rate improvements with robust retry and 3DS strategies.
• Lead incident response and reliability work for payment paths that must stay online.
