Job summary

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Principal or Senior Principal MS&A Engineer to join our Woodland Hills, CA team. You will develop physics-based models of inertial navigation systems, analyze sensor data, and support design decisions from concept through production.

You will generate and maintain simulation toolchains (MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++), collaborate across disciplines, and mentor junior engineers while advancing MS&A processes and reusable models.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline plus 5 years of relevant experience, Master’s degree with 3 years, or PhD with 1 year.
• Demonstrated experience in modeling, simulation, and analysis for complex systems.
• Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink and Python (or comparable environments).
• Experience processing and analyzing sensor or navigation data sets (e.g., IMU logs, flight test data).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to interpret complex data for design decisions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present findings clearly.
• Collaborative team player; meticulous, agile, and adaptable in fast-paced environments.
• U.S. Citizenship required and active Secret clearance; on-site in Woodland Hills, CA.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain physics-based models and simulations of inertial navigation systems, sensors, and environmental effects.
• Perform Monte Carlo analyses, sensitivity studies, and trade-off analyses for performance and margins.
• Analyze lab, flight, and field test data to validate models and quantify performance.
• Support requirements decomposition with model-based predictions and error budgets.
• Generate and maintain simulation toolchains (MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++).
• Collaborate with systems, hardware, and software teams to enable HIL/SIL integration.
• Contribute to test planning with model-informed test cases and stress scenarios.
• Analyze test results, perform root cause investigations, and provide design/calibration recommendations.
• Prepare technical documentation and executive presentations on performance, risks, and mitigations.
• Provide mentorship to junior engineers in modeling, simulation, and data analysis.
• Drive continuous improvement in MS&A processes, tools, and standards.
