Job Description

Team Overview: The Virtual Machine Data Plane team designs, develops, and optimizes the virtualization stack supporting customer virtual machines across all CPU architectures, virtualizing hardware like CPU, GPU, NVMe with near-bare metal performance. We aim to push virtualization technology boundaries to deliver highly-performant, always-available, elastic virtual machines.

Role Summary: As a Principal Member of Technical Staff, you will lead software development for key features in Oracle Compute's cloud services. This role combines hands-on engineering and leadership, focusing on building and managing large-scale, highly available cloud systems. You will mentor team members, lead high-priority projects, and shape engineering practices.

Basic Qualifications:

• 5+ years of software development in systems or application engineering
• 3+ years with OS kernel internals (e.g., memory management, device drivers)
• 3+ years with PC architecture and virtualization (e.g., QEMU/KVM, Hyper-V, ESX)
• Proficiency in at least two of the following: Go, Rust, Java, Python
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and operating systems
• Excellent communication skills
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in relevant fields
• Familiarity with networking protocols (L2/L3/L4)
• Experience with Linux performance tools
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Experience with GPU, SmartNIC, SR-IOV/VFIO, vDPA, TPM, SEV, live migration

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop major components of Oracle's Cloud Virtual Machine platform
• Improve hypervisor and VM platform quality through operational excellence
• Investigate and resolve issues across the stack, from Linux systems to distributed interactions
• Prioritize simplicity and scalability in a collaborative, agile environment

Additional Information:

US-specific roles may require compliance with health mandates. Salary ranges in USD: $96,800 - $223,400, plus potential bonuses and equity.
