Northrop Grumman Defense Systems seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join a restricted effort in Roy, UT. The role supports a key execution program with a focus on advancing mechanical designs for defense systems while maintaining rigorous standards.

The position requires a TS clearance, a Mechanical Engineering degree, and NX CAD experience. You will collaborate across disciplines, develop MBSE artifacts, and drive design changes within a compliant, mission-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field; 5+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 3 years, or PhD with 1 year.
• U.S. citizen with an active and current Top Secret clearance at time of application.
• Ability to obtain SAP approval as required by the business effort.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate ethics and integrity and the ability to innovate while challenging traditional methods.
• Operate in an advanced design environment and collaborate with suppliers to meet team goals.
• Transition innovative solutions and advanced concepts for US strategic deterrence programs.
• Evaluate mechanical systems, products, components, and designs for compliance.
• Review mechanical designs and verify standards are applied to ensure product quality.
• Support Mechanical Systems design data packages, interface models, and other artifacts.
• Support trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions.
• Develop and present design change requests with stakeholders and ensure configuration control.
• Identify risks and opportunities and implement mitigation actions.
• Develop and mature mechanical system designs meeting requirements and codes.
• Write clear requirements and verification plans for mechanical subsystems.
• Assess vendor data for program compliance and coordinate across teams.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to resolve cross-domain impacts.
• Participate in reviews and provide status updates to leadership.
• Support configuration control and documentation per Northrop Grumman standards.
