Job summary

Maxwell Bond is recruiting for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join a well-funded robotics company in Massachusetts. The role focuses on owning the mechanical design of a next-generation robotics platform, from concept through production, with strong autonomy and cross-functional collaboration.

You will tackle first-principles challenges in precision mechanics, multi-axis motion, and intelligent automation, influencing engineering standards and mentoring the team in a startup environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years designing complex electro-mechanical or mechatronic systems from concept through production.
• Extensive experience designing and specifying actuator-driven systems, motors, gear trains, encoders, load cells, proximity sensors, and other motion control components.
• Strong mechanical analysis and design expertise across system dynamics, modelling, vibration analysis, kinematics, static/dynamic load calculations, production-ready documentation.

Responsibilities

• Own the design of complex robotic subsystems from concept through production.
• Lead mechanical architecture and multi-axis actuation for a next-generation platform.
• Set engineering standards and guide the wider mechanical team through prototyping, testing, and production.
