Job summary

Motion Recruitment Partners LLC is assisting a robotics-focused mechanical engineering client near the Greater Boston area in finding a Principal Engineer for on-site work five days a week. The role spans system architecture, mechanical design leadership, and production-ready hardware within automated systems.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, drive design validation, and mentor engineers while maintaining hands-on involvement with hardware and design for manufacturing.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience in robotics/automation.
• Track record of taking electro-mechanical products from early concept through production.
• Solid understanding of motion systems including motors, actuators, and integrated sensing.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Onshape.
• Strong command of engineering drawings and geometric tolerancing.
• Familiarity with product lifecycle workflows including BOM management and revision control.
• Comfortable working hands-on with hardware to troubleshoot and refine designs.

Responsibilities

• Lead system architecture and mechanical design efforts for robotics platforms.
• Oversee design and validation activities for electro-mechanical systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to align architecture and requirements.
• Hands-on hardware development and troubleshooting.
• Mentor and manage engineering staff and project timelines.
• Coordinate with production and manufacturing teams to ensure design for manufacturing.
