Job summary

American Electric Power on-site across multiple U.S. locations seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer Principal SG9 to lead mechanical design basis and system integration for gas, coal, and renewable projects.

You will define design criteria, support RFx and procurement, and ensure robust lifecycle support from engineering through commissioning. Ideal candidates have ABET-accredited engineering degrees and a PE license, with 8+ years in power generation.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required or equivalent.
• PE license preferred; may be waived with EVP approval.
• 8+ years of related engineering experience for SG9; power-gen exposure preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical design basis for plant equipment including turbines, HRSGs, pumps, and piping.
• Review vendor drawings, specs, and RFx responses for compliance.
• Support RFx/procurement, self-build proposals, and lifecycle support.
• Provide construction, commissioning, and startup support at sites.
• Ensure compliance with ASME/API/IEEE/NFPA and other standards.
