Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a senior engineer to lead mechanical commissioning oversight for HVAC and related systems on the SFHP project. You will review documentation, ensure turnover readiness, and coordinate with end-users and contractors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree with 7 years; or Doctorate with 3 years; or currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.
  • Preferred: experience with HVAC, mechanical equipment installation, and fluid/thermal systems.
  • Preferred: facility commissioning experience and strong coordination and communication skills with ability to interpret drawings, redlines, and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical commissioning oversight for HVAC, exhaust systems, heat recovery units, life safety mechanical systems, and related equipment.
  • Review scripts, PTCs, mechanical test procedures and installation quality to ensure turnover readiness.
  • Support end-user walkdowns, validate redline drawing accuracy, and resolve vendor-related issues.
  • Integrate commissioning activities into the project schedule and coordinate training and testing logistics.

Job Description

The Facility Commissioning and Turnover (FCAT) unit provides commissioning oversight and turnover assurance, ensuring that all building systems and equipment delivered for the Spent Fuel Handling Recapitalization Project (SFHP) meet the Owner's Project Requirements and are ready for operational acceptance. In this role, you will serve as mechanical commissioning oversight for HVAC, exhaust systems, heat recovery units, life safety mechanical systems, and other facility mechanical equipment. You will review scripts, Pre Test Checklists (PTCs), mechanical test procedures, and installation quality, ensuring mechanical systems meet design requirements and are ready for turnover. Responsibilities include supporting walkdowns with end-users, validating redline drawing accuracy, resolving vendor related issues, integrating mechanical commissioning activities into integrated construction schedule, and coordinating training and testing logistics.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or Currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Pay Range

$106,200.00 - $166,000.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
