Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to serve as a system engineer over the structures of our nuclear facilities at NRF Site. The role covers development of service life extension plans for legacy facilities, and involvement in commissioning new facilities.

You will plan and execute work tasks from inception to execution, including repairs, modifications, and modernization efforts, applying ASCE 43, ACI 349, AISC N690, and relevant DOE orders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with ≥9 years of relevant experience, or higher degrees with fewer years.
  • Experience with nuclear facility codes and standards (ASCE 43, ACI 349, AISC N690).
  • Knowledge in seismic design and structural analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Develop service life extension plans for legacy facilities and assist commissioning of new facilities.

Job Description

Our Building Maintenance Engineering unit is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Structural Engineer to take on the role as a system engineer over the structures of the nuclear facilities on the Naval Reactor Facility (NRF) Site.

Within this role you will develop service life extension plans for legacy facilities, and take an active role in commissioning and starting up a new nuclear facility. You will plan and execute work tasks as assigned from inception to execution. These work tasks include repairs, modifications to existing structures, and modernization initiatives for the legacy facilities. The ideal candidate will have knowledge in steel and reinforced concrete codes for nuclear facilities including ASCE 43, ACI 349, AISC N690, and DOE orders and standards.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or Currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Pay Range

$106,200.00 - $166,000.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense‑owned Nuclear Power Training Unit‑Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world‑class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
