Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems in Iuka, MS, is seeking an experienced Materials & Processes Engineer / Principal Materials & Processes Engineer for 2nd shift, specializing in composite materials for airframe structures. The role supports the Vehicle Engineering organization.

Candidates need a STEM degree with 2+ years (engineer) or 5+ years (principal) in composites, with DoD Secret and SAP clearance eligibility.

Qualifications

• BS in STEM required; 2+ years for M&P Engineer level 2.
• BS in STEM with 5+ years or MS with 3 years for Principal level.
• Experience with composite fabrication and design on aircraft.
• Ability to obtain DoD Secret Clearance prior to start.
• Ability to obtain SAP Clearance.
• Willingness to work 2nd shift.
• Experience with military specs and standards.

Responsibilities

• Performs root cause analysis of material failures, provides effective solutions to production composite issues
• Generates test plans & reports
• Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems
• Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop non-metallic processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes
• Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications
• Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications
• May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures
• May travel to subcontractor locations
