Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a Principal Manufacturing Engineer to orchestrate new factory setup and optimize fabrication and production operations. You will drive automation initiatives, design scalable factory layouts, and coordinate across teams to deliver production-ready processes.

You will mentor engineers, lead root cause analyses, and push for continuous improvement while managing schedules, budgets, and milestones in a fast-paced aerospace environment. Relocation available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related Engineering.
• 10+ years of manufacturing/production engineering experience.
• Experience standing up manufacturing centers / new factory setup.
• Strong foundation in manufacturing automation and automated production systems.
• Advanced knowledge of manufacturing methodologies, tooling capabilities, secondary processes, and DFM.
• Advanced application of GD&T, modeling, drawing practices, and change management.
• Proven ability to lead root cause analysis and corrective action on major-scope nonconformances.
• Advanced understanding of material properties, specification authoring, and ATP/QTP testing.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings/models and apply their specific intent.
• Experience with MES.
• Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead stand-up of new manufacturing centers from concept through readiness with emphasis on automation and scalable factory design.
• Drive optimization of existing operations: throughput, quality, cost, and cycle time across fabrication and manufacturing.
• Work across multiple discipline areas independently with minimal oversight.
• Own strategic initiatives, technology maturation, and best-practice capture for production processes.
• Develop and refine hardware manufacturing criteria for production-ready processes.
• Lead anomaly investigations and recovery plans for complex development and production issues.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and project teams.
• Develop relationships with internal and external partners and act as an organizational spokesperson on advanced projects.
• Manage schedule, budget, milestones, and technical approvals.
