Job summary

PNC is seeking a Principal Software Engineer in its Lending Technology organization. Based in the US, you will design, develop, and lead backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and Kafka, coordinating a distributed team to deliver high-quality enterprise applications.

You will drive architecture reviews, establish standards, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product owners and DevOps to ensure on-time delivery and system reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience with backend focus.
• 5+ years designing enterprise apps with Java & Spring Boot.
• Experience leading technical teams of 5–10 engineers.
• Experience with Microservices and event-driven Kafka.
• Ability to influence stakeholders and lead across org levels.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and implementation of enterprise-grade software using Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, and microservices.
• Serve as technical lead for 5–10 engineers across onshore and offshore locations.
• Establish engineering standards, code quality practices, and development methodologies.
• Drive architectural decisions balancing scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Provide mentoring and guidance to engineers to elevate team performance.
