Principal Industrial Water Process Engineer

Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Industrial Water Process Engineer to help grow our water and wastewater engineering practices in our Chicago, IL office. The position also supports civil and environmental projects related to complex drinking water and industrial wastewater across the country. It is ideal for a talented, experienced individual interested in leading innovative wastewater projects, including technical evaluation, design, permitting, and construction stages.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate and mentor team members, fostering Geosyntec’s culture.
  • Work on challenging technical projects, expanding practices through business development and client management.
  • Manage projects including technical oversight, budgeting, schedule adherence, client satisfaction, and profitability.
  • Recruit, manage, and mentor junior staff and engineers.
  • Lead the preparation of technical documents, drawings, specifications, and proposals.
  • Participate in client and regulatory meetings.
  • Perform fieldwork, including contractor oversight and process troubleshooting (up to 20%).
  • Complete OSHA/MSHA health and safety, first aid, CPR training (paid by the firm).
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (civil, chemical, or environmental preferred).
  • Advanced degree (preferred).
  • Professional registration (P.E.) required.
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
  • At least 10 years (15+ preferred) in consulting or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with water supply, treatment, and reuse projects for industrial and municipal clients.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Proven success in client development and practice growth.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and good driving record.
Compensation and Benefits

The salary range is $133,820 to $237,175 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k), and more.
