Job summary

Clean Harbors is seeking a Principal Instrumentation & Controls Engineer for the Aragonite Operations to design, commission, and operate site control systems and process networks. You will drive DCS/PLC projects across ABB 800xA, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, WonderWare, and Canary Historian while leading controls strategy and mentoring teams.

You will manage safety-driven changes, optimize control performance, and maintain historians and network integrity in a large industrial setting.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Automation/Instrumentation Engineering preferred.
5+ years in control systems with strength in maintenance and design.
End-to-end DCS/PLC programming experience—from concept to startup.
Experience with ABB DCS and Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLCs; FactoryTalk, ControlLogix 5000, ABB 800xA Control Builder.
SCADA and VMware; administering workstations/servers/switches/networks.
Analog loop tuning and troubleshooting.
Industrial electrical fluency; reading schematics and installation work.

Responsibilities

Design, commission, and operate site control systems and process control networks.
Lead controls strategy, mentor teams, and harden infrastructure.
Develop, test, and implement control algorithms; optimize Basic Process Control.
Maintain ABB and Wonderware historians; plan future integration., and utilize Canary Historian.
Direct contractors, manage work orders, parts procurement, and critical spares.
