Job summary

Hartford Steam Boiler (HSB), part of Munich Re, seeks a Principal Engineer with deep HVAC/R expertise to lead risk engineering across chillers, HVAC/R systems, and related equipment in commercial facilities. You will help develop loss models, standards, and loss prevention guidance for diverse industries.

The role emphasizes collaboration with engineers and manufacturing partners, continued learning, and elevating risk insights to improve reliability and safety across complex infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; master's degree is a plus.
• Minimum 10 years of engineering experience in HVAC/R design, manufacturing, or maintenance.
• Professional certifications such as PE, CEM, or CEA are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate equipment operation and maintenance to understand functionality and identify potential failure modes.
• Analyze equipment risks associated with new opportunities in HVAC/R.
• Develop risk engineering standards and best practices for HVAC/R equipment.
• Provide guidelines for ongoing engineering loss prevention activities.
• Assist in claim investigations and review loss data.
• Develop training materials for technical and non-technical personnel.
• Build relationships with equipment manufacturers and participate in technical societies to stay informed about industry trends.
