The Open Compute Project Foundation is seeking a Principal Hardware Engineer who will provide technical guidance across various projects while fostering community engagement. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in hardware development, possess excellent communication skills, and a passion for open-source technology.

The OCP Principal Hardware Engineer (PHE) reports to the OCP Chief Innovation Officer and provides hardware technical guidance to OCP Project leads. The SPE also works closely with the community of open-source technologists to help identify and assist the launch OCP projects that seed innovation, and drive solutions that benefit the OCP community.
The PHE is passionate about developing, and delivering results (approved OCP Contributions) from OCP projects.The OCP projects, and technologies, and the derivative products produced by OCP vendor members will span DC IT Infrastructure, DC Physical Infrastructure and System Management for at scale operations.
The PHE is a servant leader putting the OCP Community first, and has a proven track record of identifying engineering trade-offs, how to best to prioritize technology alternatives, and the ability to navigate technical complexity to drive projects to successful completion. This PHE will adapt quickly to a fast-growing and dynamic environment and nurture a culture that furthers the projects within the OCP Community.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
●Work with OCP Community members, the OCP steering committee, OCP Project leads, providing hardware technical guidance to OCP Project leads
●Work with OCP Foundation and Community members, the OCP steering committee, OCP Project leads, to proactively assist the orchestration new OCP work effort (strategic initiatives, projects, subprojects and workstreams) launches.
●Working with the OCP foundation and project leads, guide OCP event technical content reviews.
●Working with the OCP Project leads and OCP steering committee review and comment on technology content of OCP contributions
●Working with the OCP Foundation guide direction of OCP event keynote presentations
●Work with 3rd party organizations to identify collaboration opportunities, scope such opportunities, and provide the necessary framework to launch collaborative projects.
●Working with the OCP Foundation, provide technical support for legal trademarks
●Represent the OCP Community at 3 rd party events.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
●BS Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 15 years’ experience with direct experience in designing and managing hardware, and firmware development projects.An advanced engineering degree can substitute for experience.
●Candidates must also understand the tools and processes used by hardware and firmware, mechanical, electrical, silicon, simulation, power delivery, signal integrity and test & validation engineers.
●Deep knowledge of the IT supply chain, sourcing practices, logistics, and the top suppliers of IT equipment.
●Exposure to setting strategic vision, developing strategic plans, and future technology roadmaps.
●Experience in working with different global geographies and ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
●Must be a dynamic speaker capable of holding the audience’s attention while delivering high technical content.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL ALSO HAVE:
●Strong technical marketing, public relations and sales enablement experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders & cultures
●Experience in compute, storage, networking, firmware technologies and have experience in data center design and IT & facilities operations.
●Knowledge of design, manufacturing models, supply chain & sales channels necessary to ensure OCP product availability to drive deeper adoption globally.
●Experience in Intellectual Property licensing, administration & compliance
●Experience in growing community engagement & membership
●Experience in leading/facilitating large scale events & industry workshops globally
●Persuasive & passionate communication skills in all types of media
●Strong advocate for open-source hardware technologies
●Ability to be on the leading-edge of industry technology trends and relevant technologies applicable to OCP.
●Ability to connect & collaborate well with all levels of an organization … from working with individual contributors, to the OCP steering committee, to project teams, and to the executives of member companies.
