Job summary

RTX in McKinney, TX is seeking a Principal Hardware Design Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced digital electronic systems for aerospace and defense, from requirements definition through testing and deployment.

You will design digital circuits and CCAs, perform verification, collaborate with ECAD, and guide peers. Onsite role; U.S. citizenship and security clearance required.

Qualifications

  • Requires STEM degree and 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with digital electronics design and schematic capture.
  • Proficient in circuit card assembly (CCA) design and traceability.
  • Experience across hardware development phases from requirements to production.
  • Ability to verify hardware with testing and debugging in lab environments.
  • Knowledge of aerospace/defense design standards is a plus.

As a Principal Hardware Design Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and developing advanced digital electronic systems that power next-generation aerospace and defense technologies. You will be involved in the complete hardware development lifecycle, from requirements definition and schematic design to testing, validation, and product deployment.

This position is onsite in McKinney, TX.

What You Will Do
  • Lead and contribute to all phases of the hardware development lifecycle, from concept through qualification and production.
  • Design and develop digital electronic circuits and Circuit Card Assemblies (CCA) using schematic capture tools.
  • Perform hardware verification, testing, and troubleshooting using engineering laboratory equipment.
  • Partner with ECAD drafters through stack up definition, pre/post-route simulation (SI/PI), layout, and routing activities.
  • Plan and execute integration and verification activities in engineering laboratories.
  • Define schedules for circuit card and sub-system level tasking.
  • Engage in personal technical growth and facilitate technical growth in peers and junior engineers.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience in Digital Electronics Design.
  • Experience in Schematic Capture.
  • Experience in Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) Design.
  • Experience in Requirements Capture and Traceability.
  • Experience across hardware development phases from requirements and design through integration, test, qualification, and production.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Knowledge of aerospace or defense product development standards and processes.
  • Experience with Design to Cost (DTC+), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and Design for Test (DFT).
  • Experience working on complex aerospace, defense, or safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with Siemens EDA Xpedition Designer (Schematic Capture).
  • Advanced knowledge of high-speed protocols, such as PCIe, Ethernet, and high-speed memory interfaces.
  • Experience with performing circuit card assembly-level architecture trades, and/or with system-level power architecture trades.
  • Experience with project management tools such as Earned Value and/or Agile Execution.
  • Proposal development experience.Experience with intellectual property generation (patents & publications).

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
