Job summary

athenahealth is seeking a Principal Frontend Engineer in Boston to drive frontend architecture across a suite of clinical applications. The role blends hands-on coding with cross-team leadership, shaping standards and the long-term path for frontend systems, including a move to GraphQL and a shared component library.

You will mentor engineers, guide multi-year modernization, and partner with product/design to align technical plans with business objectives, in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in CS/SE or related field.
• 10–15 years of professional software engineering experience with a focus on frontend architecture at scale.
• Expert-level proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript with production React.js experience.

Responsibilities

• Architect and lead large-scale frontend systems using React.js, TypeScript, and Node.js.
• Set frontend engineering standards, patterns, and component conventions across Clinicals teams.
• Lead data access design with GraphQL/REST, ensuring reliable, scalable integration.
