athenahealth is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to craft high-quality web interfaces that support clinical workflows. Based in Boston, this hybrid position focuses on scalable frontend systems using React and TypeScript.

You will build reusable UI components, integrate with GraphQL/REST APIs, and collaborate with product/design/backend teams to deliver user-centered experiences. Strong React/TypeScript skills and 3–6 years of frontend dev experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3 to 6 years of professional frontend software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript in production frontend environments.
• Hands-on experience building component-driven web applications with React.js.
• Working knowledge of Node.js for build tooling, SSR, or frontend-adjacent service development.
• Familiarity with GraphQL for client-side data fetching and API integration.
• Exposure to Perl, Oracle, AWS, Jenkins, and Harness is a plus.
• Experience writing maintainable, testable frontend code within an Agile lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain modern, performant frontend applications using JavaScript, React.js, and TypeScript.
• Build reusable, accessible UI components and establish shared front-end patterns.
• Integrate frontend interfaces with backend services through GraphQL APIs and RESTful endpoints.
• Leverage Node.js to support frontend tooling, server-side rendering, or lightweight middleware services.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to translate requirements into user-centered interfaces.
• Analyze existing frontend codebases and contribute to migration toward a unified React-based architecture.
• Troubleshoot UI defects, performance bottlenecks, and cross-browser issues.
• Write clean, testable frontend code and participate in code reviews and testing practices.
• Contribute to frontend engineering documentation, standards, and shared practices.
