Job summary

Mission Driven Research (MDR) seeks a Principal Engineer/Scientist to join our FAA AST support team in Huntsville, AL. You will define and lead approaches for complex flight safety analyses, developing industry-grade processes, reports, and tools for regulatory decisions.

You will mentor engineers, lead hazard analyses, and produce independent consequence assessments for exposures, debris, and risk metrics. A Secret clearance is strongly preferred for select roles on this contract.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, or science with 10+ years of relevant experience.
• Master's degree in engineering, mathematics, or science with 8+ years of relevant experience.
• Ph.D. in engineering, mathematics, or science with 5+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex technical analyses and develop processes, reports, and tools.
• Perform flight safety analysis including trajectory analysis, abort rules, modeling, and risk metrics.
• Conduct system safety analysis across hazard identification and safety-critical systems.
• Produce independent analyses of impacts from objects, toxic substances, and blasts on people and structures.
• Develop advanced modeling concepts and computational tools; support regulations and advisory circulars.
• Mentor engineers and analysts and review their work for technical soundness.
