Job summary

Leonardo DRS is seeking a Principal Field Service Engineer to lead field service activities in depots, training sites, and customer environments. The role requires an engineering degree with at least 8 years of experience and mastery across relevant technologies, including the ability to resolve complex technical problems and mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Lead Field Service activities at depots, training sites, and customer field operations
• Apply expert-level skills in the area of proficiency and demonstrate expertise in field assignments
• Advise customers and upper management on technical, contractual, or business issues
• Determine solutions and resolve highly complex technical problems
• Mentor Field Service personnel and lead teams as assigned
• Interface with Engineering to define paths forward for design improvements
• Participate in technical reviews and contribute to new designs and procedures
• Work remotely and lead a technical group independently
• Manage budget, cost, and schedule inputs for design tasks
• Communicate clearly with customers and company personnel
• Assist in proposal preparation and customer relationships
• Provide advanced technical support to other engineers and staff
• Lead and direct the work of others and defend the organization’s mission and values
• Attend customer or business meetings and build positive relationships

Job Responsibilities

• Lead support of all Field Service activities in operating environments at depots, training sites, and customer field operations with training, operation or repair.
• Apply expert-level skills in area of proficiency and demonstrate expertise at all types of military and commercial field assignments
• Act as a spokesperson representing the company on field service technical, contractual, or business issues while acting as an advisor to upper management and customers on sensitive or highly technical issues
• Determine solutions and advise others in resolving a wide variety of highly complex technical problems
• Serve as a recognized mentor by the Field Service community
• Solve the most difficult of technical problems and evaluate a possible solution to prevent reoccurrence, interfacing with Engineering departments on a path forward
• Participate in technical reviews and apply technical expertise in the definition of new designs and procedures
• Work at remote locations without direct supervision
• Lead a technical group independently
• Responsible for keeping within budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments
• Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required
• Participate in preparation of proposals
• Provide higher level technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel
• Lead and direct the work of others as assigned
• Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
• Attend appropriate customer or business meetings
• Lead less experienced engineers
• Attend customer and business meetings, build positive relationships, and respond to the needs of those involved

Qualifications

U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
