Job summary

Edison Smart® is seeking a Principal Environmental Test Engineer in San Francisco to own environmental testing for aerospace hardware. You will establish the testing function, create the labs, and select external partners while shaping the test strategy from day one.

You’ll start hands-on with test campaigns on prototype hardware, grow a small team within six months, and drive qualification through production in a fast-paced startup environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in environmental test for aerospace/defense or similar hardware.
• Hands-on thermal vacuum, thermal cycling, vibration and shock work.
• Experience managing external test labs and leading test teams.

Principal Environmental Test Engineer | San Francisco | Up to $230k + equity

Join a well-backed startup in the aerospace industry, looking for their first hire in environmental test.

You’ll be the technical authority for environmental testing and build the function from the ground up: the team, the in-house labs, and the external test partner network.

You’ll start hands-on, planning and running test campaigns on prototype hardware. Within six months you’ll have a small team and be setting long-term strategy from prototype qualification through to production.

You'll bring:

• Proven experience in environmental test for aerospace, defense or similar hardware
• Hands-on thermal vacuum, thermal cycling, vibration and shock experience
• Experience managing external test labs and leading test teams
• Working knowledge of MIL-STD-810 and a space qualification standard
• Startup or fast-paced development experience, and willingness to for occasional US travel
