The Principal Engineer – Quality Control / Quality Assurance provides technical and quality engineering leadership in support of operations, maintenance, construction, and industrial manufacturing activities. This position defines the scope of technical and quality engineering programs and develops effective, cost-efficient solutions to complex and challenging quality issues.The Principal Engineer applies advanced technical and quality engineering knowledge to resolve complex problems, evaluate quality programs, and ensure compliance with applicable company, site, industry, and Department of Energy (DOE) requirements. The position provides technical guidance to less senior professionals and may provide direction across departmental and organizational lines.Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline with 8–10 years of experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or Engineering within operations, maintenance, construction, or industrial manufacturing environments; orAssociate degree with 10–12 years of practical experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or Engineering within operations, maintenance, construction, or industrial manufacturing environments; orHigh school diploma with at least 16 years of progressively responsible, multi-disciplined Quality Assurance or engineering-related experience in an operations, maintenance, construction, or manufacturing environment.Previous mechanical and welding inspection or surveillance experience.Practical experience in one or more of the following areas:Quality ControlQuality AssuranceWork ControlMaterials ManagementCivil/StructuralMechanicalMaintenanceConstructionRelated engineering or technical disciplinesDemonstrated experience developing, implementing, evaluating, or overseeing quality assurance programs and procedures.Experience conducting inspections, surveillances, assessments, monitoring, reviews, or other quality evaluation activities.Strong organizational and supervisory skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical personnel, management, customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and government representatives.Ability to analyze complex technical and quality issues and develop effective solutions.Ability to provide technical guidance and direction to less experienced personnel.Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple priorities.Ability and willingness to perform weekly field walk-downs at active construction and project sites.Ability to walk distances greater than one-half mile, navigate uneven surfaces and active work areas, and climb ladders to access remote areas.Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE \"Q\" security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not required initially; the selected candidate will be notified when clearance processing is required based on assigned work.
