Job summary

Infinitum in Austin, TX seeks a Principal Engineer, PCB Technology to lead development and continuous improvement of PCB stators, define verification methods, and support R&D, Manufacturing and Quality teams. You will own supplier liaison, qualification of new stator designs, and contribute to IP portfolio with hands-on design, testing, and documentation including datasheets and application notes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; MSEE a plus.
  • 10+ years of direct experience in PCB fabrication, CAM and test.
  • Experience with PCB design, development, and network analysis.
  • Proficiency with PCB design software, Altium/Genisys/Pentalogix/CAM350.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting technically.
  • Ability to manage projects and coordinate with other departments to hit deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Design printed circuit boards for testing, reference designs, and characterization.
  • Design, simulate, prototype, and test circuitry and systems.
  • Act as liaison between PCB stator suppliers and R&D/Engineering.
  • Evaluate and characterize new products for performance and cost.
  • Create datasheets, application notes, and training materials.
  • Lead prototype builds and characterize products for production transfer.
  • Support NPI efforts and ensure designs meet customer needs.
  • Write complete specifications and coordinate with teams to satisfy requirements.
  • Keep up with latest technologies in semiconductors, assembly, and packaging.

Position: Principal Engineer, PCB Technology

Location: Austin, TX (HQ)


Reports To: Chief Technology Officer


Job Overview

The Principal Engineer, PCB Technology reports to the CTO and is responsible for directing the development and continuous improvement of Infinitum's PCB stators. This includes definition, system verification testing as well as the direct support to the R&D, Manufacturing and Quality teams. This individual is a key contributor to the qualification of new stator designs that are produced in-house, or from supplier partners using a wide variety of laboratory and analytical equipment. The candidate is expected to possess and/or quickly gain complete knowledge of the Characterization Lab equipment and its use. The individual is expected to add to Infinitum's Intellectual Property portfolio by leveraging novel approaches in design or methods that result in performance improvements and/or cost reductions. The candidate directs the activities of the Stator CAM team outputting NC and test data files for the shop floor and process routes (batch cards).


Key Responsibilities


  • Design of printed circuit boards for system testing, customer reference designs and product characterization.

  • Design, simulate, prototype, and test circuitry and systems.

  • Act as liaison between PCB stator suppliers and R&D/Engineering.

  • Evaluate and characterize new products.

  • Create datasheets, application notes, training material and other product documentation.

  • Work independently and with other members of the team on various projects involving Infinitum motor platforms.

  • Troubleshoot, optimize and perform detailed failure analysis on products in order to make DFM improvements and insert early stage testing.

  • Support corporate New Product Introduction (NPI) efforts.

  • Write complete specifications and work closely with other organizations to ensure that new products meet customer and market requirements.

  • Work with the Product Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing groups to transfer products to production seamlessly.

  • Keep up to date with latest technologies (semiconductor, assembly, packaging, tools).

  • Cooperate with Project Managers in order to maintain an up-to-date project plan and schedule.

  • Initiate prototype builds and manage product characterization.

  • Design evaluation boards and characterization fixtures, and direct or perform measurements.

  • Evaluate operational systems and recommend design modifications to eliminate causes of malfunctions or to improve robustness.


Education / Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; MSEE a plus.

  • 10+ years of direct experience in PCB fabrication, CAM and test.

  • Comfortable with lab equipment used in the characterization and design of PCB stators including metrology & microsectioning, electrical analysis, IR scanning and elemental analysis.

  • Experience with PCB design, development, and network analysis.

  • Proficiency with PCB design software, i.e. Altium, Genisys, Pentalogix, CAM350, is an asset.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable presenting at a technical level.

  • Ability to manage projects and work with other departments to meet deadlines and communicate critical design goals.

  • Willingness to learn and adopt the use of software tools in support of job function.
