Job summary

Arrcus is seeking a Principal Engineer for Network Routing & Switching Protocols in San Jose, CA. You will design, implement and optimize large-scale control plane protocols like BGP, OSPF, ISIS and SR-MPLS, and mentor junior engineers.

The role requires 16+ years of hands-on development, strong C/C++/Go/Python coding, and deep experience with L2/L3 networking, EVPN and SR. A leadership mindset and collaboration with product teams are essential.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/Ph.D. in Computer Engineering/CS or equivalent degree.
• Ability to write high-quality C/C++/Go/Python code.
• 16+ years of hands-on development experience in core networking areas.
• Experience with large-scale control plane protocols - BGP, OSPF, ISIS, LDP MPLS.
• Experience with L2 technologies - STP, PVST, MSTP; TCP/IP, RIB, FIB, BFD, IPC, Interfaces, Events.
• Experience with Overlay Technologies - L3VPN, EVPN, VxLAN; SR-MPLS, SRv6.
• Troubleshooting large-scale deployments; Model-based manageability with YANG/XML/JSON.

Responsibilities

• Triage and resolve internal, and customer-found issues.
• Write Feature Spec covering the requirements and detailed design.
• Implement improvements and features individually or as part of a team.
• Evaluate and integrate third-party libraries.
• Peer review of Feature Spec, Code, Test Plan, and other engineering documents.
• Improve performance/scale of existing features/solutions.
• Help with interviews, onboarding, and mentoring of new hires.
• Work with customer and product teams to understand new requirements.
• Plan, schedule, tracked, and report project status to customer delivery.
• Drive engineering-wide initiatives for quality and scaling of products.
