Overview

The Principal Engineer is the primary hands-on technical authority in an engineering discipline responsible for the establishment of system architecture and direction in product development. They spearhead the development of next-generation products and the improvement/maintenance of current designs, with minimal administrative duties. They represent the company’s position on dental industry issues and new product introductions and are the technical “face” of A-dec.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

1. Partner with Project leadership, Product Management, Engineering Management, and Technology Research to develop architecture and platforms for current and future products.
2. Lead new product design, sustaining engineering efforts, and ensure product compliance with all technical regulatory requirements.
3. Provide technical analysis and recommendations to strategic planning teams, serving as the champion for strategic system decisions.
4. Participate in recruiting and training team members to build a talented engineering organization with a strong design presence and technical mentorship of less senior engineers.
5. Use independent judgment to ensure technology appropriateness, customer needs are met, schedules are adhered to, regulatory requirements are addressed, resources are used efficiently, and design activities are coordinated.
6. Maintain design skills and knowledge of product technologies by staying current in manufacturing technologies, industry standards, regulations, patents, and project management.
7. Encourage participation in professional organizations and networks to stay updated with technological innovations.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles and experience in complex problem solving.
2. Ability to create and manage a vision, think strategically, plan, innovate, analyze data, and exercise sound judgment. Capable of motivating and leading teams and collaborating effectively.
3. Ability to assess and manage risk, meet product requirements on schedule and budget, see the big picture, and execute plans effectively.
4. Desire to stay active in technology development and architecture.
5. Skilled in applying design engineering principles and techniques to provide engineering solutions.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or relevant discipline, with at least 15 years of experience in research, development, or product development, or equivalent.
