Job summary

Moderna is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead LNP and formulation operations for IND/ASU enabling manufacturing at our Norwood, MA site. You will build an agile, phase-appropriate model and partner with PD, analytical labs, and quality to ensure rapid, compliant material delivery.

You will guide a cross-functional team across process development through manufacturing execution, ensuring technical rigor and robust knowledge transfer.

Qualifications

• Degree in Chemical/Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, or related discipline.
• 5+ years (PhD), 10 years (MS), 12 years (BS) industry experience in biopharmaceutical development.
• Experience leading development teams spanning multiple functions.
• Experience in pilot operations and LNP/formulation development.

Responsibilities

• Lead LNP and formulation manufacturing operations supporting IND and ASU enabling manufacturing activities.
• Provide leadership for the LNP/formulation group, ensuring scientific and technical understanding between PD and manufacturing.
• Build and operate an agile development manufacturing model capable of delivering material for toxicology studies and process development.
• Ensure manufacturing operations are phase-appropriate, balancing speed with compliance and rigor.
• Partner with CMC development Quality for deviation management and batch disposition readiness.
• Collaborate with analytical testing labs to ensure testing readiness and timely material release.
• Ensure readiness across people, processes, materials, and equipment before manufacturing.
• Drive problem-solving during campaigns, including escalation, deviation response, and CAPA.
• Capture learnings and incorporate into future strategies.
• Foster a culture of scientific curiosity, ownership, accountability, collaboration, compliance, and urgency.
