Job summary

Chainguard, a remote-first company, seeks a Principal Software Engineer to lead the Libraries Platform across multiple ecosystems. You will shape architecture, automate remediation, and drive end-to-end pipelines for secure, scalable open-source library builds.

The role emphasizes platform generalization across .NET, Go, and Rust, with a focus on automation and reliability. You will mentor engineers, write RFCs, and define SLOs for the remediation pipeline while collaborating with internal teams

Qualifications

• 12+ years designing, building, and operating infrastructure for language ecosystems or developer platforms.
• Experience onboarding a new toolchain into an existing platform, e.g. .NET (NuGet), Go (modules), or Rust (Cargo).
• Proficiency in Go with judgment on how ecosystems should fit the platform.
• Strong background in CI/CD, IaC, and cloud-native tooling at scale across heterogeneous ecosystems.
• Excellent written communication in a remote, distributed environment.

Responsibilities

• Own the multi-ecosystem scaling strategy and architecture for the Libraries Platform.
• Lead end-to-end CVE remediation workflow redesign to minimize manual steps.
• Set direction for AI-driven patch generation with automated validation and approvals.
• Guide platform-wide decisions on package index, build pipelines, and registry mirrors.
• Evaluate make-or-buy choices for ecosystem tooling and dependency models.
• Mentor senior engineers, lead architecture reviews, and author RFCs.
• Define platform reliability via SLOs and lead incident postmortems.
• Tackle toolchain and dependency resolution issues across ecosystems when needed.
