Job summary

Conrad Consulting in New York is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to lead and grow our Land Development practice across New York and New Jersey. This leadership role manages complex projects, mentors staff, and drives client relationships and strategic growth.

The ideal candidate is a licensed PE with 12+ years in land development, strong knowledge of site design and permitting, and proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and MS Office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Licensed PE in NY/NJ or reciprocity within six months.
• 12–20+ years in civil engineering with land development focus.
• Experience managing multiple projects and teams.
• Knowledge of site development design, stormwater, utilities, grading, permitting.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, design, and execution of land development projects from concept through construction.
• Serve as Engineer of Record for commercial, residential, industrial, institutional, and mixed-use developments.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver on schedule and within budget.
• Develop and maintain client relationships and support business development.
• Mentor engineers and staff across projects.
• Oversee site plans, grading, drainage, utilities, stormwater, erosion control, and construction documents.
• Coordinate with architects, surveyors, regulators, and environmental consultants.
• Manage local, county, and state permitting.
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, zoning, and environmental requirements.
• Participate in strategic growth planning for the Land Development practice.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Principal Engineer to lead and grow our Land Development practice across New York & New Jersey. This leadership role is responsible for managing complex land development projects, mentoring engineering staff, fostering client relationships, and contributing to strategic business growth. The ideal engineer is a licensed Professional Engineer with extensive experience in site development, municipal permitting, and project delivery across public and private sector markets.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, design, and execution of land development projects from concept through construction.
• Serve as Engineer of Record for a variety of commercial, residential, industrial, institutional, and mixed-use developments.
• Manage multidisciplinary project teams to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted technical advisor.
• Support business development initiatives, including proposal preparation, client presentations, and identifying new market opportunities.
• Mentor, coach, and develop engineers, project managers, and technical staff.
• Oversee the preparation and review of: Site plans, Grading and drainage plans, Stormwater management systems, Utility design (water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer), Erosion and sediment control plans, Construction documents and technical specifications.
• Coordinate with architects, planners, surveyors, environmental consultants, and regulatory agencies.
• Manage permitting and approvals with local, county, and state agencies.
• Provide technical leadership and ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, zoning regulations, and environmental requirements.
• Participate in strategic planning for the continued growth of the Land Development practice.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or relevant degree.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in New York / New Jersey or ability to obtain reciprocity within six months.
• 12–20+ years of progressive civil engineering experience with a strong focus on land development.
• Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong knowledge of: Site development design, Stormwater management, Utility infrastructure, Grading and earthwork, Local and state permitting processes
• Experience with municipal approvals throughout New York and the surrounding region.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong communication, leadership, and client management skills.
• Proven ability to mentor and develop engineering staff.
