Job summary

Okta is seeking a Principal Engineer on the OIG team to lead architecture and delivery of enterprise-grade access governance features. You will shape system design for scale, reliability, and security while collaborating with engineering, product, and design to deliver secure, scalable solutions used by thousands of enterprises.

The role emphasizes building at scale, owning features end-to-end, and driving cross-team alignment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years in software engineering, with at least 3 years in senior/staff leadership.
• Proven experience architecting and delivering large-scale distributed systems for enterprise customers.
• Deep expertise in microservices, event-driven architectures, APIs, and data modeling at scale.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Go or equivalent JVM/cloud-native languages.
• Ability to influence technical direction across teams without formal authority.
• Experience designing systems meeting enterprise reliability, scalability and security requirements.

Responsibilities

• Take end-to-end ownership of feature areas from design to deployment and monitoring.
• Design, build, and ship production-ready features across the OIG system prioritizing correctness and performance.
• Deliver high-quality bug fixes and respond to customer-reported issues.
• Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and uphold engineering quality.
• Collaborate with Product Development, QA, and Site Reliability Engineering on scope and deployment.
