Job summary

System One is seeking a Principal Engineer in the North Cincinnati, Ohio area. The role is a direct hire with a hybrid model (onsite Tue, Wed, and Thu).

You will serve as the primary technical authority for the Client Technology platform, shaping integration strategies, data flows, and enterprise-level architecture. With 10+ years in software development and data management, you will contribute technically across multiple teams, influence roadmaps, and mentor senior developers and data engineers

Qualifications

• Minimum ten years of progressive experience in software development and data management, with at least three years at principal level.
• Full-stack development experience with modern/open-source technologies for enterprise applications.
• Knowledge of modern data architecture: Medallion model, CDC-based data capture, bronze/silver/gold layering, and SCD Type 2.
• Experience in enterprise B2B data sharing, API strategy, and high-volume data ingestion/egress.
• Comfort working across Linux & Windows environments, Docker-based workflows, and production pipelines.
• Ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams without formal management authority.
• Experience leading design discussions, creating architecture docs, and guiding development through trade-offs.
• Experience establishing engineering standards, code reviews, and development workflows across teams.
• Comfort navigating polyglot environments with Java interop, REST, queues, serverless, multiple databases and data platforms including Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, Fabric, Snowflake, AWS.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical authority for the Client Technology platform and partner integrations.
• Drive technical roadmap planning with product and leadership, translating objectives into architectural direction.
• Maintain a high level of individual contribution within the customer-facing team.
• Write production code, conduct deep-dive code reviews, and guide the team through complex problems.
• Provide non-management technical leadership to Senior Developers and Data Engineers.
• Raise the technical bar through shared standards, architectural reviews, and mentorship.
• Collaborate with analysts and SMEs to design new applications and modify current ones.
