Principal Software Engineer (Hybrid - Hartford, Connecticut)
Optomi, in partnership with a leader in the insurance industry, is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team supporting enterprise software solutions on the Microsoft technology stack. This is a hands-on leadership role for a technical expert who mentors others, drives architectural strategy, and influences engineering culture and processes. Ideal for a technologist with deep .NET experience, a strong product mindset, and the desire to lead through impact and innovation.

Qualifications
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with increasing leadership responsibilities
- Strong experience in system architecture, distributed systems, and scalable design
- Proven experience mentoring developers and influencing engineering culture
- Demonstrated breadth across DevOps, networking, data modeling, and RESTful API development
- Hands-on experience with debugging, performance tuning, and production support
- Understanding of CAP theorem, event sourcing, and NoSQL concepts
- Experience working in or with product teams and contributing to roadmap strategy
- Strong communication skills and ability to influence without authority
- Exposure to Site Reliability Engineering SRE, ITIL, and Agile SAFe methodologies is a plus
- Published technical content such as blogs, GitHub, or conference talks is highly desirable
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field (Master’s preferred)
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement multi-tiered systems across full-stack environments
- Lead architectural efforts and align development with business and IT strategy
- Mentor software engineers and cultivate a culture of craftsmanship and ownership
- Identify inefficiencies and modernize legacy systems and engineering processes
- Drive improvements in DevOps, change management, and developer productivity
- Establish and enforce engineering best practices and quality standards
- Collaborate with architects, product management, and release trains in SAFe
- Troubleshoot complex system and infrastructure issues
- Influence product and platform strategy with technical insight and customer focus
- Contribute to system documentation, estimation, and technical roadmaps
- Proactively identify technical debt and champion continuous improvement
- Foster a collaborative, high-performing, and innovative engineering environment
