Job summary

Google seeks a Principal Engineer for the Agentic AI Data and Insights group to lead the technical direction of agentic data analysis. You will drive architecture across Core, Cloud, and GDM, shaping Google SQL and related standards while mentoring engineers and coordinating multi-team efforts.

You will partner with senior leaders to define long-term strategy for agentic infrastructure and developer tools, impacting data analysis across Google’s products and platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 15 years of software engineering experience.
• Experience designing, building and maintaining large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience as a senior technical leader overseeing portfolios and multiple teams.
• Experience in architectural design and systems integration for enterprise platforms.

Responsibilities

• Redefine data analysis architecture and design a shared component ecosystem (skills, sub-agents, RAG systems, embeddable UIs).
• Guide Core, Cloud, and GDM teams to ensure enterprise-wide coherence and bridge internal systems with external cloud standards.
• Act as Insights' technical liaison, collaborating with VPs and senior ICs to establish common infrastructure.
• Bridge gaps by translating cloud-generated ANSI SQL into Google SQL for internal use.
• Align senior ICs and in-flight efforts to high-impact data analysis problems.
• Mentor staff engineers and lead the shift to AI-orchestrated development models.
