Job summary

Southland Industries in Columbus, Ohio, seeks a senior design manager to guide conceptual design for specified projects and lead a large team of engineers toward project goals.

You will ensure engineering standards, provide design support to other departments, and act as design expert in project team meetings, with responsibility for preliminary layouts and complex calculations during construction.

Qualifications

• Mastery of applicable systems design (HVAC, plumbing) and all design engineering aspects.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, able to interact with all levels of staff, clients and contractors.
• Strong leadership and public speaking skills.
• Proficient with CAD tooling and Microsoft Office.
• Four-year degree in Engineering or related field.

Job description

This position manages conceptual design for specified projects.In addition, this role manages a larger group of engineers, responsible for achieving project goals and objectives.

• May establish department objectives based on company strategic goals
• Ensures engineering standards are maintained and followed
• Provides design and engineering support to other departments as needed
• Services as design expert at project team meetings
• Prepares complex preliminary redline design layouts for estimating
• Performs more complex calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, friction loss calculations, etc.
• Performs site inspections to determine compliance with construction documents and resolves design issues during construction phase

Qualifications

• Masteryknowledge of applicable systems design, such as HVAC, plumbing, etc., as well as all design engineering aspects
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communication with all levels of employees, clients and general contractors
• Strong leadership skills
• Strong public speaking ability
• Strong computer skills, including CADD and Microsoft Office Products, such as Excel
• Four-year degree in Engineering or related field
