Job summary

Southland Industries seeks a licensed engineer to lead evaluation, design, and engineering of HVAC, plumbing, and related systems on diverse projects. The role involves performing advanced calculations, guiding design standards, and mentoring junior engineers.

Requires a BS in Engineering, PE license, and at least 5 years of experience. Strong communication and CAD/MS Office skills are essential for success in a fast-paced, employee-owned environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
• PE License required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection or related systems.
• Ability to read mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in CAD and Microsoft Office, including Excel.

Responsibilities

• Lead evaluation, design, and engineering of projects to specification on new design/build or rehabilitation efforts.
• Perform complex calculations for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and other systems.
• Develop standards, methods, and procedures for reviewing and inspecting designs.
• Identify optimal solutions for complex engineering problems.
• Direct and mentor junior engineers on projects and provide guidance on designs and issues.

Job description

Lead, evaluate, design, and engineer projects and systems to specification on projects ranging from new design/build to rehabilitation of existing facilities and systems.Provide ongoing technical guidance and engineering issue resolution as needed.

• Performs complex calculations, drawings and specifications related to HVAC, plumbing, fire protection or other systems


• Performs complex calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, friction loss calculations, hydraulic calculations, etc.


• Develops standards, methods, processes and procedures for reviewing, evaluating and inspecting designs.


• Determines methods and solutions for complex engineering problems and identify the most efficient and acceptable solution.


• Directs the workflow of less-experienced engineers on assigned projects.Mentors and provides guidance on designs and technical issues.


• Writes technical narratives in response to RFIs

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field


• PE License required


• Minimum 5 years of experience


• Strong knowledge of applicable systems design, such as fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, etc., as well as general understanding of system operations.


• Ability to read mechanical and plumbing plans.


• Strong verbal and written communication skills


• Strong computer skills, including CADD and Microsoft Office Products, including Excel
