Job Title: Principal, Energy Optimization Software Engineer – Energy Startup

Location: Remote, with preference for Bay Area, CA, Chicago, IL, or West Palm Beach, FL

We’re looking for passionate and talented software developers to join our team and help drive our mission to create sustainable, scalable, and efficient on-site generation systems for data centers. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced engineers who want to work at the intersection of clean energy, AI, and software development to help shape the future of the energy industry.

We’re seeking the founding engineer that will create new systems and processes to progress an AI-driven platform that enables large-scale energy systems to autonomously dispatch given economic and customer signals. In addition, we’re seeking more junior engineers that will join us in this mission and align with the founding engineer to enhance our speed to market.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, test, and deploy techno-economic capacity expansion and economic dispatch models that parameterize multiple energy technologies (wind, solar, battery, fossil, etc.)
• Work closely with business development team to align modeling outputs to client needs and business objectives
• Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code in Python
• Design software architecture that is scalable and optimized for energy-related applications and real-time data processing.
• Support the development of user interfaces and dashboards that present actionable insights

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Energy Economics or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in techno-economic simulation of energy systems and software development
• Demonstrated track record in solving large optimization simulations in Python
• Experience with machine learning algorithms, particularly in energy optimization, forecasting, or market pricing
• Solid understanding of energy markets and energy storage systems, including lithium-ion batteries, power grids, and renewable energy sources (solar, wind)
• Ability to work in an agile, fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and evolving priorities
• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
