Job summary

CIS TECHNOLOGIES INC in Waltham, MA is seeking a Principal Embedded Engineer (Medical Device) to lead architecture, design, and delivery of embedded software for regulated medical devices. This senior individual contributor role demands technical ownership and cross-functional collaboration.

The engineer will work with systems, electrical engineering, software quality, and regulatory affairs to ensure compliance, risk management, traceability, and robust verification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS/Software/EE/Biomedical Eng or related.
• Typically 10–15+ years of embedded software or firmware development experience.
• Experience at Principal/Senior Staff/Software Architect level or equivalent technical leadership.
• Strong hands-on embedded C/C++ development experience.
• Experience with regulated medical devices or safety-critical industries.
• End-to-end embedded software lifecycle experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for embedded software development and sustaining activities.
• Design, implement, debug, test, and maintain embedded software for medical devices.
• Define and evolve embedded software architecture, components, interfaces, and data flows.
• Analyze legacy software to understand behavior and limitations.
• Resolve complex software/hardware integration, performance, and reliability issues.
• Translate system requirements into testable software designs.
• Decompose requirements into software components and interfaces.
• Ensure traceability between requirements, risks, architecture, and verification.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and root-cause investigations.
• Collaborate with hardware and systems engineers on interfaces and device behavior.
• Develop low-level drivers, HALs, and application-level embedded functionality.
• Support integration with external systems and middleware.
