Cornelis Networks, Inc. is seeking a principal-level embedded engineer to architect firmware for next-generation networking silicon. You will lead bare-metal C firmware development on a RISC-V management core, focusing on secure boot, image authentication, and on-chip engine provisioning.

The role blends hands-on architecture, firmware bring-up, and mentoring, with AI-assisted tooling across design, implementation, and testing. Remote within the US, with equity and benefits included.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of embedded/firmware engineering with a track record of software architecture and leadership.
• Expert C (C++ a plus) and working Python.
• Deep experience with bare-metal firmware on constrained cores and on-chip memories.
• Experience with secure boot and hardware root-of-trust integration.
• Experience programming hardware CSRs and co-designing register-level interfaces with silicon teams.
• Hands-on AI-assisted engineering proficiency and ability to judge AI outputs.

Responsabilités

• Architect and implement bare-metal C firmware on a RISC-V management core provisioning, booting, and supervising on-chip engines.
• Own the secure firmware-loading pipeline: fetch images, verify digital signatures, and distribute images to engines.
• Create per-engine bring-up, reset sequencing, and health validation with robust error handling and security invariants.
• Scale firmware distribution across multiple engines and dies, including in-field updates.
• Define hardware/software contracts with ASIC/RTL teams using datamodel-first workflows (SystemRDL, Kaitai, YAML).
• Validate firmware against simulators (QEMU) with automated unit and integration tests.
• Set architecture standards, review designs and code, and mentor engineers.
