The Civil/Structural Engineer-Power Systems Eng IV will design and oversee civil/structural work for power projects, coordinating with regulators and other teams to ensure compliant, timely

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering (required).
  • Eight+ years of civil engineering experience focusing on power systems site development.
  • PE license is required; CA PE license preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other design software.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to power systems design, construction, and maintenance.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed project plans, designs, and cost estimates for power systems site development projects (substations, transmission lines, distribution).
  • Analyze project requirements and create technical specifications, calculations, and drawings compliant with codes and standards.
  • Provide recommendations to improve feasibility, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.

Position Description

The Civil/Structural Engineer-Power Systems Eng IV will design, develop, and oversee the civil/structural portions of the various power systems infrastructure projects, including substations, transmission lines, and distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed project plans, designs, and cost estimates for power systems site development projects, including substations, transmission lines, and distribution systems.
  • Analyze project requirements and create technical specifications, calculations, and drawings for the projects in compliance with codes and standards.
  • Provide recommendations to improve project feasibility, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Prepare all civil and structural designs for various projects.
  • Coordinate with other departments, project teams, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure project compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources, and ensure timely completion of projects within budget and on schedule.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and quality control checks to ensure that projects meet design and regulatory requirements and ensure that all documentation and reports are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, planners, and stakeholders to identify and evaluate potential project risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Mentor junior engineers and review and approve their work products.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies, materials, and methods in the power systems infrastructure field, and recommend new approaches to improve project outcomes.

Skills | Knowledge | Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from an accredited university (required).
  • Eight plus (8+) years of civil engineering work experience with focus on power systems site development projects required.
  • Candidate must have strong technical expertise, project management experience, and regulatory compliance knowledge to ensure safe and reliable operation of power systems infrastructure.
  • Strong technical proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other design software.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards related to power systems infrastructure design, construction, and maintenance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to identify and mitigate project risks.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (required), CA PE License (preferred).
Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Authorization | Security Clearance:

  • Due to the nature of federal government work, candidates must be a US citizen.
  • Ability to obtain Military Base Access is required for this position.
  • Valid driver’s license required with a record that meets the CLP Fleet Policy.
Travel

  • Travel between job sites expected with 20-30% overnight travel expected.
Compensation | Benefits

  • We offer an excellent benefits package that includes medical insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, 401k with company contribution, paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Salary range: $116,000 - $144,000/annual based on experience plus eligible to participate in Short Term Incentive Plan.
    • We reserve the right to pay more or less than the posted salary range based on factors unrelated to sex.
