Job summary

Astera Labs in San Jose, CA is seeking a Principal Electrical Design Engineer to define the architecture and technical strategy for advanced board-level hardware across networking and high-performance connectivity platforms.

You will lead design of chassis boards, NIC cards, PCIe Gen6, and 800G Ethernet, own schematic capture, drive design-for-excellence, supervise bring-up and validation, and mentor engineers while partnering with silicon, firmware, and manufacturing teams to deliver

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
• 12+ years hardware design experience with leadership across multiple generations.
• Expert in PCIe Gen5/Gen6 and 800G Ethernet system design.

Responsibilities

• Define and own board-level hardware architecture and roadmap.
• Lead design standards and best practices for hardware engineering.
• Drive SI/PI tradeoffs for high-speed multi-layer PCBs.
• Oversee bring-up, validation, and debugging for new platforms.
• Mentor senior engineers and represent hardware in executive reviews.
