Job summary

RTX in Tucson, AZ is seeking a Principal Multi-Discipline Engineer to solve elastomer-related engineering challenges and perform material characterization in a fast-paced lab environment.

You will assess elastomer and non-elastomer materials, collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, and deliver engineering solutions within days or weeks. The role requires coordination of many tasks and occasional travel to support projects.

Qualifications

• University degree or equivalent experience with 8+ years, or an advanced degree with 5+ years.
• Experience in elastomeric materials and characterization techniques (FTIR, DSC, DMA, SEM-EDS, GCMS, HPLC, GPC).
• Preferred: Bachelor's in Chemistry; ability to troubleshoot analytical instruments and interpret data.

Responsibilities

• Assess elastomer materials based on design requirements and specifications; conduct root-cause failure analysis.
• Characterize non-elastomer materials (adhesives, plastics, tapes, composites, metals) in similar scenarios.
• Perform quick-turn analyses in a multi-discipline team and tailor outputs to customer needs and timelines.
• Collaborate with engineers and suppliers; work in a laboratory setting and manage multiple tasks within schedules.
