Job summary

MKS Instruments, Inc. is seeking a Principal DevOps Architect in Engineering Services to shape enterprise DevOps across security, CI/CD, and platform governance. This hybrid role involves two days per week in the office and close collaboration with IT and Security.

You will own CI/CD architecture, automate pipelines, and build reusable solutions that scale across teams while mentoring engineers and leading DevOps initiatives to improve reliability and software delivery.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, MIS or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in DevOps, DevSecOps, platform engineering, or related technical discipline.
• 5+ years hands-on experience architecting, building, administering, or modernizing enterprise CI/CD and DevOps platforms.
• Deep understanding of CI/CD architecture, SDLC, source control, pipelines, release engineering, and platform reliability.
• Hands-on experience with GitHub Enterprise, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, CloudBees CI, Perforce, Bitbucket, Nexus, Jira, and Confluence.
• Experience creating reusable automation, pipelines, templates, and frameworks to reduce friction at scale.
• Strong understanding of DevSecOps and secure software delivery practices.
• Ability to move between architecture and hands-on solving while influencing teams.
• Strong communication skills to translate complex decisions for engineers and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical vision and architecture for MKS's enterprise DevOps capability, including source control, CI/CD, artifact management, release automation, DevSecOps, reliability, and governance.
• Modernize and simplify the DevOps ecosystem spanning multiple tools (GitHub Enterprise, Azure DevOps, GitLab, Jenkins, Nexus, Perforce, Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence).
• Architect reusable CI/CD solutions with templates, libraries, and repeatable release patterns at scale.
• Identify friction, technical debt, and reliability gaps to drive automation and standardization.
• Partner with Security and IT to embed security into workflows (identity, secrets, vulnerability management, auditability, software supply chain).
• Lead the DevOps Center of Excellence with standards, reference architectures, and training.
• Serve as principal technical advisor to engineering teams on CI/CD, platform, reliability, and DevSecOps challenges.
• Improve long-term reliability and observability through automation and operational practices.
