We’re proud to serve an elite customer base, including 13 of the top 25 North American grocers, 8 of the top 10 foodservice distributors, and 8 of the top 10 global food and beverage manufacturers.

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an innovative and highly skilled Principal Data Architect to lead the modernization of our enterprise applications and databases, leveraging cloud, DevOps, machine learning, and AI tooling. This role combines deep technical expertise with a forward-looking mindset to deliver scalable, secure, and intelligent systems for our mission-critical food supply chain platforms.

In this role, you will also champion the use of AI-powered development and productivity tools—such as ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Google Gemini, and others—to accelerate solution design, coding, documentation, and problem-solving across the engineering organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the architecture, design, and migration of enterprise applications and databases to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Develop cloud-native solutions using containers, microservices, and serverless technologies.
  • Use AI-powered tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini) to explore architectural options, generate migration plans, and produce documentation faster and more effectively.
  • Manage and optimize enterprise-grade databases (Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL) with a focus on high availability, replication, disaster recovery, and performance.
  • Integrate AI tools to assist with complex SQL generation, performance analysis, and tuning recommendations.
  • Provide Tier 3 database support and participate in a weekly on-call rotation.
DevOps, CI/CD & Automation
  • Collaborate with DevOps teams to build robust CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code using tools like Terraform, Ansible, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Drive process automation and quality control using AI-enhanced tooling to catch issues early and standardize deployments.
  • Encourage adoption of AI development assistants (GitHub Copilot, Amazon CodeWhisperer) to improve development velocity and code quality.
  • Work with Data Science teams to architect and deploy ML-powered features into production environments.
  • Design scalable data pipelines and inference services that integrate into core platforms.
  • Utilize AI agents for model documentation, monitoring insights, and generating integration code snippets.
Strategic Leadership, AI Enablement & Mentorship
  • Establish architectural and AI best practices across teams to promote high-impact, maintainable, and scalable systems.
  • Mentor engineers and DBAs in modern design patterns, cloud strategies, and effective use of AI tools to enhance productivity and innovation.
  • Act as a thought leader in how AI and automation can be embedded across development, operations, and support workflows.
Compliance, Security & Documentation
  • Ensure solutions are secure, compliant with data protection standards (SOC2, GDPR, etc.), and meet business continuity requirements.
  • Leverage AI tools to assist in generating, maintaining, and reviewing documentation related to architecture, disaster recovery, and compliance audits.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 12+ years in application architecture, cloud migrations, or database administration in enterprise environments.
  • 5+ years of experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Hands-on experience managing and optimizing large-scale databases and mission-critical applications.
  • Experience integrating and operationalizing ML models is a plus.
  • Proven ability to use AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Bard, etc.) to accelerate work and enable team productivity.
  • Databases: Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL – backup, clustering, performance tuning.
  • DevOps: CI/CD with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab; Infrastructure-as-code with Terraform and Ansible.
  • AI/ML: Familiarity with ML platforms (SageMaker, Vertex AI), and AI development assistants (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini).
  • Security: Strong grasp of encryption, access control, and audit compliance.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Proactive, self-driven leadership with a passion for innovation.
  • Comfortable balancing big-picture architecture with hands-on execution.
  • Committed to continuous learning and fostering a culture of technical excellence and AI adoption.
