Job summary

PSEG is seeking an IT Engineer Principal I – Data & Analytics to design, build, optimize, and support data pipelines and data assets for enterprise reporting and AI initiatives. You will collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and product partners to ensure reliable delivery across the company.

The role emphasizes data engineering, data modeling, metadata, and workload management, with strong emphasis on cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) and governance practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 6–8 years of experience delivering technology solutions focused on data engineering/analytics.
• Demonstrated leadership through ownership of technical solutions or project components.
• Experience documenting technical solutions, data flows, and system behavior.
• Foundational knowledge of data management practices and data warehouse/data lake architecture.
• Strong ability to design, build, and manage data pipelines including transformations and metadata.
• Experience with AWS and/or Microsoft analytics platforms and data services.
• Proficiency with SQL, PL/SQL, and relational/nonrelational databases.
• Experience supporting DevOps practices (version control, automated testing, releases).
• Experience collaborating with BI/analytics teams to support data needs.
• Experience with ETL/ELT pipelines using SSIS, AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory or similar.
• Compliance with 10 CFR 810 required.

Responsibilities

• Analyze requirements to design and test data pipelines, transformations, and data models for reporting and analytics.
• Create, maintain, and optimize data pipelines as workloads move to production.
• Document data flows, technical specs, and process descriptions for maintainability.
• Work with analysts, BI developers, data scientists to refine data needs and outputs.
• Coordinate with architects, cloud/infrastructure, dev teams, and cybersecurity for enterprise alignment.
• Participate in design/change reviews to ensure quality and standards.
• Provide production support for data pipelines and analytics systems, and perform root cause analysis.
• Assist with controlled deployments, upgrades, and change management processes.
• Review tools/platforms to improve performance, scalability and alignment with business needs.
• Contribute to metadata management, data quality and governance practices.
• Support continuous improvement of engineering methods and automation.
